Translation

“In our modern world translation services become very important. If you don't need translation, it means that you just didn't realize it. In the context of total globalization, you must bring the information about your company to every person in every remote corner of Earth in his native language…”

Have you already read these words? As a rule, that is presented on most translation agencies’ and freelance translators’ websites. I don’t share such an approach. Every person or company knows if they need language services. If they don’t need these services, no exhortation or persuasion will make them order a translation; just because they don’t need it. On the other hand, if someone needs a translation, there’s no point in arguing.

And if someone still needs language translation at competitive prices, I am at your service (language service).

Let me tell you a couple of words about it: I offer English to Russian, English to Ukrainian translation and vice versa. As a professional LSP I translate two major kinds of texts: tagged text (this may be website translation, HTML translation, XML translation, or even PHP translation), and plain text (this may be translation of various documents, Ukrainian or Russian IT translation, software translation, translation of contracts, manuals, and many, many other types of documents).

As you know, I’m engaged in freelance translation, and this occupation requires some software tools. As for me, generally I use the following programs and applications:

•    SDL Trados 2007 – Professional translation tool including translation memory and applications that help translators to provide the highest quality (not to be confused with machine translation systems).
•    TagEditor 2007 – Application that helps to translate tagged documents and documents with complicated formatting, with this tool the target document has the same formatting as the source document.
•    LocStudio 4.71 – Another CAT tool, alternative to Trados.
•    ABBYY Lingvo 12 – Powerful dictionary software comprising over 100 Russian, Ukrainian, and English bilingual and monolingual dictionaries.
•    MS Office 2003 – Everybody knows it!
•    Photoshop 7.0 – Graphic editing software that helps translators to translate and design some graphic formats.
•    Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional – This software is needed when working with PDF format.
•    PowerPoint 2003 – Presentation program that allows creating and editing or translating presentations and marketing material.

And in conclusion I’d like to give you some background information about me as a freelance translator:

My key principle is “jointless translation”. It means that a translation should read like an original. Now I’m permanently working with several tens of translation agencies and a lot of direct customers (companies and individuals). My experience in this field is over seven years. My daily output is up to 2500 words per day.

Along with translation services I offer proofreading services, editing services, evaluation services, localization services, urgent translation, etc.
